Rowing
Sloop rowing is Roland's greatest hobby. As an experienced stroke rower, he developed his own oars and rowing cushions.
No two rowing sloops are the same. That's why Roland is glad to advise on what suits your sloop and your crew. Here, too, everything is made to measure.
We make two lines of oars. The Van Malsen 3.0 (since 2018) is stronger, lighter and better balanced. The Van Malsen Premium uses abachi and Oregon pine with a mahogany handle. We choose wood carefully, use special gluing techniques and shape the blade for a stiff, light oar with less risk of injury.
Blade size, shaft length and handle are tailored to the rower, within current competition regulations. The rowing cushions come from Roland's own years in the sloop. Ask about the options with no obligation. You can also order oars and rowing cushions directly from our webshop.

Since 2019 we've been a certified apprenticeship workshop: students on Firda's furniture maker/(ship) interior builder programme get hands-on experience with the trade at our workshop, including building oars.
