Our workshop in Makkum

Roland van Malsen founded Van Malsen Jachtbetimmering BV in 2002, out of his love of woodworking and rowing. Our workshop on the Makkumerdiep, with direct access to the IJsselmeer, covers 880 m², with a further 200 m² working loft above it. There we fit yachts to order and make oars known well beyond Makkum.
Since 2019 we've partnered with Firda as a certified apprenticeship workshop, training students on its furniture maker/(ship) interior builder programme through hands-on work, including oar building.

A love of rowing
Rowing is at the root of our business: Roland started Van Malsen Jachtbetimmering BV out of his love of woodworking and rowing. You can see that love in the oars we make in our own workshop.
Since 2015 we've sponsored the rowing sloop Fjoer Fûgel.
